About Me

Marieke M.A. Hendriksen PhD

Senior Researcher, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences

I am a historian of early modern science, art, and ideas. My research focuses on how sensory experiences and material culture shaped epistemic cultures and knowledge identities. I combine archival research and close reading with object-driven research, performative methods (‘reconstructions’), and digital humanities research methods. You can download my CV here.

I am the founder of Hands-on Historians, an online resource for historians who have integrated performative methods in their research, and for those interested in such research. I currently work as a researcher at NL-Lab, a research group at the Humanities Cluster of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, and I am co-leading the NWO-funded project Art DATIS. I was awarded an inaugural KNAW Early Career Award in the fall of 2019.
